TUFS Music Fan Club is established
May 23, 2025
The TUFS Music Fan Club, established by the International Education Support Office (IES), held the first regular meeting at lunchtime on Thursday, May 15, 2025. Professor Philip Seaton gave a very interesting presentation titled "English composer, Japanese composer? Reflections on the Japanese influence in my music" about his experience as a composer of classical music with English and Japanese influences. In fact, he shared that some of his compositions include references to TUFS! Around 20 students, staff, and faculty members attended the meeting and engaged in a lively discussion.

TUFS Music Fan Club members attended the “Romantic English Strings” special performance by Kleine Harmonie Orchester at Hikifune Culture Center on Saturday, May 17, 2025. The orchestra beautifully performed a piece composed by TUFS Professor Philip Seaton.

The goal of the TUFS Music Fan Club is to bring together TUFS faculty, staff, and students through their common love of music. We welcome any member of the TUFS community – from first year undergraduates to emeritus professors – to join us in thinking about how musical activities as listener and/or performer enrich our study of language and culture. There are no restrictions on genre, skill, or language – TUFS’ mission is “intercultural coexistence”. Join us in creating a space for learning more about genres that we perhaps do not usually listen to, using Japanese, English, and music to communicate.
